Butch vs Momma Cow
One day I was hunting ducks with Butch at our farm on the Lissie Prairie in Texas. As we walked toward the pond where we were going to hunt, we happened upon a cow and her newly born calf. The mother immediately decided that the nearest person was a threat to her baby and started chasing him. That lucky person was Butch. Butch took off with the mother hot on his heels. Somehow during this he heard me jack a shell into my shotgun and yelled, “don’t shoot her we can’t afford to pay for her!” So off he went with angry Mama on his heels. Luckily there was a barbed wire fence close by, which he jumped, deterring the mother from further pursuit. I quickly went over to where he was standing so that I would not be the next target. To this day, I do not know how, with everything happening at once, he was able to determine an escape plan, hear my gun being loaded and outrace an angry cow.
