Equal Justice For All

This story is dedicated to my buddy Tad who always seemed to escape the final consequences.

When we were about five years old, our parents were having a family party at the boathouse on the island. My mom and dad had recently acquired a new car, I believe it was a Pontiac, and I was showing Tad how neat the steering wheel was and how much fun it was to pretend to be driving. I even showed him how to take the car out of park just like my dad did when he was driving. Unfortunately, the driveway at the boathouse slopes down towards the water and when I took the car out of park it rolled into the back end of Uncle Chuck’s car. Our respective fathers came running from the boathouse when they heard the crash. For our efforts, Tad received consoling, and I received a spanking. That is when I truly knew that there was no justice in the world.
